When Lourdes Morales came to Canada from Manila, Philippines, she had the opportunity to upgrade her education, a turning point that sent her down a path caring for seniors.
“A lot of my friends were encouraging me to take computer courses at the time,” says Morales. “But I knew I wanted to do something in health care.”
She earned her care aide, first aid and food safe certificates and pursued a career working with seniors.
Morales has been with Classic LifeCare for more than 14 years and says she’s grateful for the opportunity to work with so many wonderful clients and learn so many new things.
“It can be difficult working with seniors. You need a lot of patience, especially when they have an illness or are not feeling well,” she says. “But I really enjoy my job because I like helping people. Most of the seniors I work with live by themselves and it means a lot to them when you show them you care and treat them with respect.”
When she’s not working, Morales loves to hang out in shopping malls – mainly to people watch – with her friends or by herself.
